Look what I found today

Good Morning, at least it is here.  I just realized how few pictures of myself I have.  This is Christmas 2016.  And weighing in at 230 lbs.

May the 2 was my 68th birthday.  It was the first day of the rest of my healthy life. I spent the day looking for healthy recipes and ideas to make this new life possible.  And low and behold look what I found today.

While this is short term it will help me establish goals and good habits for the long term goal. That would be to weight 175 lbs. by next May 2, my current weight is 224 lbs.  I'm a type two diabetic and already have a heart stint.  My doctor said this is doable.  And gave me the go ahead.  God has things for me to do according to his purpose and I can't do them if I don't start taking care of the body he gave me.  While it is about the pounds there is so much more involved.  I’m going to blog about this to help me be more accountable.   I will do that on every Monday.  Hope you follow along, I don't want to be talking to myself.  I will share the best recipe of the week.  And tips that work for me as I find them.  Would love to hear any that you have tried and worked for you.
1. This weeks goal is to learn to work the pedometer I located on my phone, and apply the “my fitness” app.
2. stick to 3 meals a day 2 small snacks (diabetic)
3. Treadmill Tues and Thursday and Sat. 10 min.
I’m so happy to have found this, I’ll take all the help God wants to send my way.  Thank you Lori....be sure and visit the link above, Lori is a magnificent quilter and reaches out to help others with her tutorials.  She also has some classes on http://www.craftsy.com/

  1. Happy, albeit now belated, birth day wishes! It sounds like you and I are similar in that there are very few pictures of us - likely you're generally behind the camera just like me. Truthfully I'd rather not see too many pictures of myself! It will be fun to see what recipes you come up with and to cheer you along your journey.

  3. Tonia, I wish you every success! Bravo for showing yourself on your blog, and I'm with you on not really enjoying seeing myself there either ;) I had great success with weight loss about 6 years ago by following the book "The GI Diet" by Rick Gallop. There is a website for this book as well which you might find helpful: thegidiet.com
My brother-in-law lost over 150 lbs through this book, and I lost about 45 lbs. I can't say enough about the diet. It works. There is no measuring amounts of food, you can eat all you want of the right kinds of food, you don't ever have to be hungry. And there aren't any weird foods you're expected to find. The simplicity of the diet is what worked for me. I lost the weight in about 4 months, but saw great results in about 3 months. I kept the book handy in the kitchen all the time and it's easy to read it in a few days. The book is set up in two parts. The first part is the weight loss section. The second part is maintaining your weight loss. There are quite a few books written by Rick Gallop on this diet, but I found the first book suited me best. Exercise is encouraged of course, but I was happy to find that just walking every day is acceptable for your quota. If you can get your family to join in the diet with you, I find that's the easiest way to go so that you're not tempted by the foods they eat, and everyone benefits from it. There are a few recipes in the first book, but I think there are more recipes in follow-up books, and also on the website.
Now having said all that, I have to be honest with you and say that some of the weight has come back on for me. Only because I stopped following the guidelines in the maintaining the weight loss section. I have only last week got back into the diet again (easy to do actually), and would be happy to follow along with you on this adventure ;) Big hugs to you!

    1. PS I forgot to mention that the book was recommended by my BIL's doctor as my BIL had himself then become diabetic and needed to lose the weight. It's also a perfect diet for reducing blood pressure and cholesterol.

  9. Happy Birthday Tonia! Congratulations on your new journey. It seems we are in the same boat. I weigh the same, give or take a couple lbs. and am 5'6"
Here is a link for a lovely, Christian workout DVD - it is not typical. It is stretching exercises, and the creator was inspired by the Lord to create it as a Christian alternative to Yoga. Here is the link if you care to read about it.
